Washburn regularly spent time visiting his brother Stanley and family in New Jersey. According to notes written by Washburn, the New Jersey Series I dated from 1913, and Series II from 1915. Accordingly, any New Jersey series listed in the Keppel 1913 catalog would be part of Series I.

Washburn won a Gold Medal at the Panama-Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco in 1914 for The New Jersey series of prints.
